MH Libman
Woodturner - Asheville, NC

From the Artist
I am a full time woodturner with a gallery and studio in Asheville NC. I turn bowls, platters, hollow forms and other turned objects. I am passionate about my craft and the American Craft movement. I want my work to be attractive as well as useful. All of my wood is “reclaimed urban harvest” removed for lot clearing or storm clean up. I produce all my work on the lathe without any embellishments after the fact, creating a very traditional feel. I am a member of the American Association of Woodturners, Carolina Mountain Turners and River Arts District Artists.

I have been a featured demonstrator at the Southern States Turning Symposium as well as a number of woodturning clubs throughout the southeast.

I have attended National and regional Symposia and have dedicated my career to the art of woodturning. I began turning in High School and continued woodworking as a hobby until 2002 when I made it a full time career. I am extremely fussy with regard to the wood I use for your bowls – as evidenced by the fact that I handpick the wood myself. I typically work in Cherry, Ash, Maple, Apple and Walnut - woods whose natural beauty is an essential ingredient when turning these fine vessels. At carefully chosen times of the year, I acquire these logs through local sawyers clearing parcels for development. I do not remove any trees exclusively for bowls! I prefer this form of “reclaimed urban harvest”. I use a natural Walnut Oil or Mineral Oil and Beeswax finish totally food safe and renewable!
